Maharashtra: State prepares to tackle rise in Covid-19 cases if any

The state on Wednesday reported 36 new Covid-19 cases, out of which four were reported from Mumbai. There was only one death reported in Solapur due to Covid. At present, there are 164 active cases in the state, out of which 44 are in Mumbai.

Against the background of the international scenario of rising cases of Covid-19, screening of international passengers arriving at Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur airports was started from December 24. All passengers are being thermally scanned and random samples of 2 per cent of them are taken for testing.

Two passengers who returned from London tested positive on Wednesday in Mumbai and their samples were sent for genome sequencing. One is a resident of Pune and other is from Goa. So far 62,606 passengers have arrived from overseas and 1,077 of them underwent RT-PCR tests, of whom 2 were positive. The state has prepared itself for rising Covid cases and has 33,475 isolation beds ready for the same. It also has 16,351 doctors trained in Covid treatment ready.
