Covid-19: Mumbai’s doubling rate, test positivity rate continue to improve

Mumbai’s daily tally remained above 1,000, but fell marginally on Friday; state records 29,644 cases

Mumbai witnessed a marginal dip in the daily Covid-19 tally, with the BMC confirming 1,416 cases of novel Coronavirus on Friday. The test positivity rate (TPR) dropped further to 4.28 per cent, while the doubling rate of infection improved to 317 days.

According to the BMC's report, the city registered 54 more deaths due to Covid-19 on Friday. Thirty of the newly confirmed Covid-19 deaths were of patients with comorbidities, while 30 of the deceased were senior citizens and 18 were aged between 40 and 59. The recovery rate of Covid-19 cases in the city has been improving and was 93 per cent on Friday, when a total of 1,766 patients were sent home after recovery.

The daily cases in the state fell marginally to 29,644, while the fatalities dropped significantly to 555. The case fatality rate in the state was 1.57 per cent. Meanwhile, 44,493 patients were discharge across the state, leaving 3.67 lakh active cases on Friday.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported a marginal rise in daily figures by registering 3,780 cases on Friday, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Besides Mumbai, Palghar and Raigad reported the maximum number of cases in the MMR, at 454 and 588, respectively.

Vasai-Virar reported 226 new cases, Kalyan-Dombivli 200 and Thane 176. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 42 deaths, out of which Raigad reported the highest after Mumbai, at 14. Palghar and Vasai-Virar reported three deaths each, Navi Mumbai seven and Kalyan-Dombivli one.

On Tuesday, the country's financial capital registered fewer than 1,000 cases for the first time since the second outbreak of Covid-19. However, both the cases and deaths increased significantly on Wednesday. The jump has been attributed to more testing.
