After a marginal rise in the test positivity rate (TPR) on Friday, Mumbai recorded its lowest TPR of 1.36 per cent in the second wave, on Saturday. There has been a steady fall in the city's TPR since May 5, when it was 10.96 per cent.
The daily new cases of Covid-19 also saw a significant drop, while the Covid-19 fatalities remained the same. As per the BMC report, 504 new Covid-19 cases were reported across the city with 13 deaths. The doubling rate also improved and was 909 days.
Of the 13 deaths, nine patients had comorbidities, eight deaths were in the age group of 60 above, while five deaths were reported in the 40-60 age group. On June 8 and July 7, the city had reported single digit Covid-19 fatalities in the second wave. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 96 per cent as 736 people recovered and were discharged on Saturday. The MMR region reported 1,674 cases on Saturday, including those reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Panvel with 165 and Raigad with 409 reported the maximum new cases in the region.
Meanwhile, the state's new Covid-19 cases also saw a marginal drop with 8,296 cases being reported across the state on Saturday. A total of 179 deaths were reported in Maharashtra. The state currently has 1.14 lakh active cases.
The vaccination drive, which was shut for two days due to unavailability of vaccines, will resume from Monday, as fresh stock arrived on Saturday night. Since Sunday has been marked as a "holiday" by the BMC, vaccines won't be administered at public centres today. Authorities said that the stock of 85,000 doses that arrived on Saturday, will last only two days.
A civic official, requesting anonymity, said, "If we do not receive additional stock by Monday, there are chances that our drive will again be affected on Wednesday." Meanwhile, private hospitals inoculated 48,393 beneficiaries on Saturday. With this, the city crossed the mark of 60-lakh inoculations.
