Rajesh Yadav's Innova after he accidentally drove it onto platform no 6 at Andheri station, mistaking it to be a road, on Friday

This was clearly the road to nowhere, but it seems the one driving the Innova was oblivious to it. Rajesh Yadav (36) yesterday drove his car onto platform 6 at Andheri station, thinking it was an actual road. Around 3.15 pm Yadav, who was manoeuvring his vehicle on the busy station road parallel to the platform at the Borivli-end, got in via a slope connecting the road and platform, apparently meant for the handicapped.

Slope for wheelchairs
Railway authorities claim that for the convenience of those in wheelchairs, they have not barricaded the slope.

Immediately after Yadav got on to the platform, on-duty RPF officers came running. Commuters waiting there too began confronting the driver. He was caught by the railway staff and people, and later, the car was reversed out of the premises.

"The driver claimed that he got confused with the direction and ended up entering the station," said an RPF officer. The car was seized and the driver arrested under the Railway Act; he will be produced in court.

Yadav was also taken to Cooper hospital for a medical examination, which revealed that he was "tired". There is no CCTV camera at the spot, and hence, there is no official footage of the act.

"The driver works for Gammon India and was ferrying someone to the airport. We have arrested him," said A Shukla, senior divisional security commissioner (Mumbai), WR.
