At least three people have died and 22 other suffered injuries after a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus crashed into some vehicles near Anjum-E-Islam School at SG Barve Marg in Kurla (West) in Mumbai on Monday night, the officials said.
According to the civic authorities, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) and the Mumbai Police officials rushed to the spot and launched a rescue and relief operation.
An official said that the accident took place at 9.50 pm. The firefighting personnel, along with other authorities, have begun the rescue operations. At 10.10 pm, MFB declared the mishap as a 'Level-1' incident.
The driver of the bus was identified and detained by the Kurla police following the incident, an official said.

An official statement said, "one BEST Electric Bus (MH-01, EM - 8228) which was plying from Kurla Station (West) to LBS Road, while plying the bus dashed 30-40 various types of vehicles in the distance of 100 meters and also dashed to RCC column of Solomon Building by breaking compound wall of the building. Some of the people on road and in the vehicles were left injured in the incident. The injured people were rushed to the nearby Kurla Bhabha Hospital in private vehicles as well as in 108 Ambulance."
A doctor at Kurla Bhabha Hospital said that 25 injured people were brought to the hospital out of which two were brought dead and one injured died after admission. The condition of 22 injured is awaited."
The officials said that the driver of the BEST bus on route number 332 allegedly lost control over the wheel and dashed into pedestrians as well as some vehicles.
The bus then crashed into the gates of a residential society and came to a halt, they said.
The bus was going from Kurla railway station to Andheri when the accident occurred, he added.
