A 33-year-old commuter, who had arrived at Dadar railway station from Jalgaon in Punjab Mail, was attacked by a ragpicker with a screwdriver following an altercation. The Dadar Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested the accused identified as Shauk Ansari on Thursday.

According to a report in Times of India, complainant Shivaji Mali hails from Jalgaon and works as a security guard in the western suburbs. On Tuesday, Mali boarded long-distance Punjab Mail to travel to Mumbai from Bhusaval. The express train reached platform number 6 of Dadar station around 6.45 am on Wednesday.

The complainant came to the door of the S1 coach to check if there were any food stalls on the platform. At the same time, accused Ansari nudged Mali and entered the coach.

"Tu kyun dabbe mein chadha (why did you get into the coach)?," Ansari yelled at Mali, leaving him puzzled. Police officials said that Ansari presumed Mali to be a ragpicker and thought that he would pick leftover items from the coach, leaving him with nothing.

Following this, the accused had an argument with Mali, who got off the coach. As the argument escalated, Ansari went after Mali with a screwdriver and attacked him on his neck, stomach, and hands before fleeing the spot. The cops rushed Mali to a hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

"A case of assault was registered. We made some inquiries and nabbed Ansari near Swaminarayan temple on Thursday after a tip-off," senior inspector Dnyaneshwar Katkar said.
