A 27-year-old constable attached to the Local Arms (LA) division of the Mumbai Police allegedly hanged himself after an alleged tiff with his friend, an official said on Monday.
According to the police sources, the police constable hanged himself in a library inside the Worli Police camp on Sunday night. He had reportedly sent a picture of himself with a rope to his friend, claiming he would hang himself. The Worli police have filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the matter.
Sources said, the cop, identified as Indrajit Salunkhe, was attached to the Local Arms division at Bhoiwada and was living in the Worli police camp. He had joined the force two years ago. Salunkhe was reportedly in a relationship with a woman, and they had a fight after she found that he was chatting with another girl via social media.
According to an official from the Worli police station, "On Sunday, both met and reportedly had a fight. After she left for her home in Goregaon, she allegedly blocked his number. Salunkhe tried to call her but in vain. He also sent a picture of himself with a rope and messaged that he would hang himself." Another police officer added, "Finally, he went to a library in the police camp and hanged himself. The suicide was revealed by 10 pm."
