The Kitchen Tales Workshop: Writing Cookbook Chronicles, a three-day session will be conducted by food writer and columnist Gouri Dange, where she will guide bloggers, food writers, home chefs and eager foodies on how to write a food memoir, or about the food traditions of specific communities. The focus will be on finding the right tone, and making the book easy to use, with the help of indexes and glossaries.
Dange shares, "There has been a huge interest in writing cookbooks during the pandemic, primarily because people were at home and began to acquire new skills, of which cooking was one. Books are no longer about recipes, but about delving deeper into the stories behind them. Modern cookbook writing must focus on the sociology around cooking; today, food writing is almost cinematic, and sometimes, can be autobiographical too."
The workshop will also explore other book-writing tools such as title-writing for chapters and choosing visuals and illustrations. "Ideation, identifying the core USP, understanding markets, and discussing gadgets, cutters, and other types of cooking equipment will be part of the workshop," Dange concludes.
