National Award-winning playback singer and daughter of legendary music director Ilaiyaraaja, singer Bhavatharini passed away on January 25. According to reports, she was battling cancer. The singer was in Sri Lanka for the treatment of liver cancer and took her last breath on January 25 at 5 pm in the country. Her mortal remains will be brought back to India today. Bhavatharini was 47 years old.
Ilaiyaraaja's daughter Bhavatharini was also the sister of Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. She won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the Tamil song, 'Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu' from 'Bharathi'. She was reportedly suffering from liver cancer from the past six months. Recently, she went to Sri Lanka for further treatment. She succumbed to the illness on Thursday at a private hospital in Sri Lanka.

Ilaiyaraaja's daughter Bhavatharini made her debut as a playback singer with the Tamil film 'Raasaiya' in 1995. From then, she sang songs for her father, Ilaiyaraaja, and brothers, Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja. She had also sung songs for composers Deva and Sirpy.
She later turned composer in the year 2002 for the Revathy-directed film 'Mitr, My Friends'. She went on to compose for several other films including the Hindi film Phir Milenge'. Her last music album was for the Malayalam film, 'Maayanadhi' starring Tovino Thomas and Aishwarya Lekshmi which was released in 2018.
Bhavatharini sang songs in Tamil films, such as 'Kadhalukku Mariyadhai', 'Bharathi', 'Azhagi', 'Friends', 'Paa', 'Mankatha' and 'Anegan', amongst others.
