The original "Paw Patrol" television series was designed to get the kids familiar with the characters so as to serve the sale of merchandise well. And it was big business all the way through. This film version takes the branding to the next level. The narrative is exceptionally brilliant at engaging its target audience by creating characters with personalities that kids can relate to. In the world of "Paw Patrol," puppies led by a 10-year-old boy named Ryder (Finn Lee-Epp) perform every possible rescue needed in Adventure City.

The main film is preceded by a short featuring Dora the Explorer about saving the egg of a fantasy creature and it's not without some sublime enjoyment. The main feature has an empowering story and memorable catchphrases that manage to swing its way into the hearts of kids quite easily. Writer/Director Cal Brunker returns to the franchise and doesn't miss a beat while creating an excitement-fueled adventure full of life lessons attached to all the fun and frolic. The young characters here save the day with their courage and cool tech-led heroics. It's all pretty much straightforward and easily digestible. There are lessons being conveyed too. Teamwork is the buzzword of course. There are some defining moments encouraging kids to understand that it's easier to succeed when you stand together as opposed to going it alone and there's no real harm in making mistakes as long as you learn from those experiences.

This puppy-centred adventure lends the PAW Patrol pups superpowers by means of a meteor crash-landing. The Mighty pups then have to deal with Humdinger, their arch-rival and a mad scientist who wants to steal the powers for themselves. Thus the Mighty pups are tasked with saving Adventure City from the Mad-scientist-driven meteor shower, and stopping the supervillains before it's too late.

There's a fair bit of tension in the telling and plenty of smiles to go with the unique saves. Composer Pinar Toprak's score is evocative enough to make the experience feel compelling. The villains are avaricious and power hungry in a mild way and the voicing for even the minor characters is done by marquee names like Kristen Bell, James Marsden, Lil Rel Howery, and Kim Kardashian. Toonish violence leading to a lot of crushed and destroyed properties without any human or animal casualties amount to some mild-mannered excitement. The action aesthetics is pretty much up there with the best. Some spectacular animated action go hand-in-hand with frenetic repetitiveness of certain elements but it's all favorable to full-on kiddie joy rides.
