He began his journey in the movies in 2013 with a role in 'Lootera' and followed it up with character roles in 'Dil Dhadakne Do' in 2015 and 'Half Girlfriend' in 2017. He played his first lead role in the movie 'A Death In The Gunj' that was released in 2017
The actor subsequently appeared in the biographical drama Chhapaak (2020), romantic comedy Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare (2020), mystery thriller Haseen Dillruba (2021), family drama Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi (2021), and romantic thriller Love Hostel (2022). Massey also had leading roles in the streaming series Mirzapur (2018), Broken But Beautiful (2018–2019) and Criminal Justice (2019)
However, it was his 2023 film 12th Fail that changed the course of his career. The film directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra further earned him praise as an actor and a bankable one at that too.
Post the success of 12th Fail, Vikrant was seen at multiple places and spoke in depth about his life- both personal an professional
On the personal front, 2024 has been a blessed year for the actor. He and his wife Sheetal Thakur welcomed their first child- a baby boy, whom they named Vardaan
The actor during the promotions of his recently released film The Sabarmati Report spoke about the threats he was receiving on social media apparently for doing the film that is based on the 2002 Godhra riots. He said that even his infant son was not spared in the threats and it got him concerned for his son's safety
A couple months back, Vikrant also faced trolling for touching his wife's feet while celebrating karwa chauth
In an interview talking about the post that got him trolled, Massey said, "My phone had six photos, but only four of them became a topic of discussion. Some people liked it, while others even abused me. I don’t understand why. I believe that if you want peace at home, you should touch your wife’s feet from time to time. People made those photos viral. She is the Lakshmi of my home, and I don’t think it’s wrong to touch Lakshmi’s feet"
Meanwhile, Vikrant was also criticised for his political comments in the days leading to the release of The Sabarmati Report. His pro-government comments unlike his earlier stand did not go unnoticed by netizens who pointed out about his changing political inclination.
"I was a big critic of BJP. But as I traveled across the country, I realised that things are not so bad, Muslims are not in danger in the country," he said in an interview that drew much ire
Despite controversies, Vikrant Massey was seen in total of four new films in 2024. While Blackout, Sector 36 and Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba was released directly on OTT, The Sabarmati Report was Vikrant's first theatrical release after 12th Fail
12th Fail gave him much success and took him places. He played the role of an aspiring IAS officer who beats all odds to emerge a winner. The film was screened at film festivals and was even screened in the Supreme Court
The Sabarmati Report earned heavy praise from several BJP leaders including PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and even Hema Malini. Majority BJP-ruled states also made the film tax free
While announcing his retirement from acting, Vikrant said that he will meet his audience one last time in 2025. As per reports, Vikrant is currently working on two films - Yaar Jigri and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan.
