Tabassum Fatima Hashmi, known as Tabu, was born on November 4, 1971.

Tabu got her first acting job as a teenager in the film Hum Naujawan (1985), directed by the famous Dev Anand. This role marked the beginning of her career in movies.

She landed her first leading part in the Telugu film Coolie No. 1 (1991), which helped her gain recognition in Bollywood.

She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in Maachis (1996), a movie about the Punjab insurgency, which helped her gain critical acclaim.

 In 1994, she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for her role in Vijaypath, showing that she was a serious actress.

In 1996, she appeared in several successful films, including Ninne Pelladata and Saajan Chale Sasural, proving her popularity among audiences.

During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Tabu starred in many hit films like Iruvar (1997), Border (1997), and Hera Pheri (2000), showcasing her talent across different genres.

After a brief break from commercial cinema, she returned in Jai Ho (2014), where she played Salman Khan’s sister. The movie was a commercial success.

Tabu collaborated again with director Vishal Bhardwaj in Haider (2014), an adaptation of Hamlet. Her performance received high praise and added to her reputation as a talented actress.

In Drishyam (2015), she played a police officer looking into her son's murder, earning another nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Tabu’s role in the thriller Andhadhun (2018) was a standout moment in her career. She starred alongside Ayushmann Khurrana, and the film was a major hit, praised by critics.

In 2019, she featured in De De Pyaar De as Ajay Devgn's ex-wife. Although the film received mixed reviews, many noted that Tabu's performance was a highlight.

 In 2024, she starred in a female-led heist comedy called Crew, alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kriti Sanon. The film generated excitement due to its fresh concept.

Tabu is also set to dazzle in the cast of the Dune franchise prequel series called Dune: Prophecy.
