Monica Bedi Birthday: A quick look at her journey in showbiz

The dazzling diva of the 90s who made her Bollywood debut in 1995 with Suniel Shetty and Saif Ali Khan-starrer 'Surakshaa', is celebrating her 48th birthday today. Once popular for her mesmerising beauty and on-screen charm, the actor has been keeping away from the silver screen for a long time now. Known for her stint in movies like 'Jodi No.1' and 'Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat', Monica made headlines when she got into a romantic relationship with notorious underworld don, Abu Salem. More than her professional career, Monica grabbed eyeballs for having a tumultuous personal life. After being bogged down by the controversies revolving around her 'illicit' love affair with Salem, Monica made a stellar comeback in showbiz with the reality show 'Bigg Boss 2' in 2008. A popular face on the small screen, Monica is also an avid social butterfly who enjoys a huge fan following on Instagram. Before stepping into the world of Bollywood with Suniel Shetty and Saif Ali Khan-starrer, 'Surakshaa' in 1995, Monica made her acting debut with a Telugu movie called 'Taj Mahal' in the same year.

Apart from sharing the screen with Sanjay Dutt and Govinda in 'Jodi No.1', Monica has also appeared in Salman Khan and Urmila Matondkar-starrer, 1999 romantic drama, 'Janam Samjha Karo'.

Born in 1975 in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab, Monica Bedi found herself in the middle of the storm after the news of her dating gangster Abu Salem broke out. In 2002, the actor got arrested with her then-gangster boyfriend, Abu Salem in Portugal on the charges of having fake and forged documents. She served in jail for two years. 

After being away for years from showbiz, the actor made a remarkable comeback in the second edition of the popular reality show, 'Bigg Boss'. After 'Bigg Boss' she went on to appear in other reality shows like, 'Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 2' and 'Dil Jeetegi Desi Girl'. 

Apart from reality shows, Bedi has also appeared in television dramas like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Saraswatichandra' and 'Bandhan'.

Monica who was a popular face of Bollywood back in the 90s has appeared in several Telugu and Punjabi movies. As far as Hindi film is concerned, the actor was last seen on 'Tada' in 2003 which starred Dharmendra, Mukesh Khanna, and Sharad Kapoor in lead roles.
