One of the Bollywood's biggest Khans, actor Aamir Khan has turned a year older today. The actor who began his career as a child actor in the movie 'Yaadon Ki Baarat', has become one of the most revered celebrities for his diverse roles such as 'Bhuvan' in 'Lagaan' to 'Rancho' in '3 Idoiots'. On this eventful day, let us take a walk down memory lane and look at Aamir's top eight performances.

'Andaz Apna Apna' (1994) does not fail to make you laugh even when you watch the film 28 years after its release. The film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi starred Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, and Karisma Kapoor in lead roles. The film also starred Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor in pivotal roles. Amar (Aamir Khan) and Prem (Salman Khan) compete for Raveena's love, a millionaire's daughter. But in a hilarious turn of events, the duo have to face a local gangster, Teja, who turns their lives upside down.

'Sarfarosh' (1999) was a huge success, not only amongst the fans but also with the critics. The movie stars Aamir Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Mukesh Rishi and Sonali Bendre. When Ajay Singh Rathore's (Aamir Khan) brother is killed and father severely injured by terrorists, Ajay quits his studies to join the Indian Police Service with a mission of wiping out the terrorists.

A cult favourite, 'Dil Chahta Hai' (2001) stars Bollywood actors Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta and Dimple Kapadia. 'Dil Chahta Hai' is beautifully written movie that talks about three friends, Akash (Aamir Khan), Sameer (Saif Ali Khan) and Siddharth (Akshaye Khanna) who discover that their lives after college will be a test for their tight-knit bond.

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, 'Lagaan' (2001) was nominated for the Best Foreign Language film at the Academy Award nominations ceremony. Set in the pre-independence era, Bhuvan (Aamir Khan), a farmer, takes on the challenge of Captain Andrew Russell to beat his team in a cricket match which will allow Bhuvan's village to not pay taxes for the next three years as a reward.

'Rang De Basanti' (2006) is a patriotic film directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehta. The film stars actors Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapur, R. Madhavan and Atul Kulkarni. Sue (Alice Patten) picks a few students to portray Indian freedom fighters in her film. But in the process, she unknowingly awakens their patriotism which turns the students into rebels with a cause.

'Taare Zameen Par' (2007) tells the tale of a dyslexic child 'Ishaan' (Darsheel Safari) who is sent to a boarding school for his poor academic performance by his extremely critical parents. Ram (Aamir Khan), an art teacher, recognizes 'Ishaan''s struggle and helps him navigate his way through school. The film was directed by Aamir Khan and Amole Gupte.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, '3 Idiots' is based on a 2004 novel 'Five Point Someone' by Chetan Bhagat. '3 Idiots' is a story on three engineering students Rancho (Aamir Khan), Farhan (R. Madhavan) and Raju (Shrman Joshi) who pave their way through the social pressures under the Indian education system.

'Dangal' is based on the real life events of the wrestlers Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat. Aamir plays the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat, the wrestlers' father in the film. The movie stars other talented actors like Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Aparshakti Khurana, Zaira Wasim, Suhani Bhatnagar and Sakshi Tanwar. The film is directed by Nitin Tiwari.
