Vidhu Vinod Chopra hosts special screening of Shikara for Kashmiri Pandits

After the special screening of Vidhu Vinod Chopra's next Shikara that was held in New Delhi where the makers showcased 30 minutes from their film to real-life Kashmiri Pandit refugees and received immense appreciation from everyone. Now, the makers of Shikara hosted a special screening of the movie for the real Kashmiri Pandits refugees who left their homes during the mass exodus of 1990, in Mumbai on the 29 January. Vidhu Vinod Chopra along with Vijay Singh of Fox Studios, Abhijat Joshi, lyricist Irshad Kamil and the lead actors of the film, Aadil Khan and Sadia were also present for the screening.

In picture: Sadia, who is making her debut with Shikara, looked pretty in her traditional attire as she arrived for the special screening of the film in Juhu.

Shikara brings back the untold story of Kashmiri pandits from the valley of 1990 and has 40,000 real migrants of Jagti and other camps who shot for the film. The movie also has actual footage from the exodus included which brings it even closer to the reality.

Ever since the release of the first trailer of Shikara, the curiosity factor has been on an all-time high with the subject and storyline that it carries. Recently, the makers also released the second trailer of the film and both the trailers have been widely appreciated for its storyline and the gut-wrenching portions from history.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra in a recent interview said the reason behind making this movie was his mother. "It took me 11 years to make the film.. Many people ask me 'why this film' and 'why didn't I make another part of 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S' or '3 Idiots'... It's not just a film for mea I made this for my mother (late Shanti Devi)," said the filmmaker.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who has tapped into memories of his childhood and the stories of his mother to create Shikara: The Untold Story Of Kashmiri Pandits, also showed a short documentary Shikara: Tribute To My Mother, capturing the emotions of his mother when she went back to Kashmir to her place after many years. After many years, she got a chance to revisit her place when Vidhu Vinod Chopra started to work on Mission Kashmir in 2000.

Shikara addresses the issue of ethnic cleansing and riots that took place in 1989 in Kashmir. The film chronicles the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir on the night of January 19, 1990, through the story of Shiv Kumar Dhar (essayed by Aadil Khan) and Shanti Dhar (essayed by Sadia). It also shows the layers of blooming romance in the conflict-ridden state of Kashmir. 3 Idiots producer has directed, edited and produced Shikara in association with Fox Star Studios. It will open on February 7.
