Why Madhubala was called 'The Beauty with Tragedy'

She was third born among the seven daughters (Kaneez, Fatima, Altaf, Chanchal, Zahida and Shahida being others) of a handsome Pathan Attaullah Khan and his beautiful Iranian wife.

Madhubala was credited as Mumtaz in films such as Basant, Dhanna Bhagat, Pujari, Phoolwari, Rajputani, where she acted as a child artist.

He has mentioned, "I must admit that I was attracted to her (Madhubala) both as a fine co-star and as a person who had some of the attributes I hoped to find in a woman at that age and time..."
