A still from Sheer Qorma
Sheer Qorma, starring powerhouse actors like Shabana Azmi, Swara Bhasker and Divya Dutta has been grabbing eyeballs at several prestigious international LGBTQIA+ festivals. After gaining acclaim across international borders, the film is now all set for its homecoming with its Mumbai premier as the Centrepiece spotlight film at the Kashish International Queer Film Festival - South Asia's Largest Film Festival. The film will have its premier on 4th of June, 4:30pm, Liberty Cinema.
The film tells the story of acceptance, celebrates love in its purest form and has powerful performances from its leads. The film has also been screened at one of the largest LGBTQIA+ Festivals - Frameline.
Sharing her excitement producer Marijke DeSouza, told mid-day.com, "We are thrilled to have Sheer Qorma as the Centrepiece film at Kashish International Queer Film Festival 2022. The audiences in Mumbai our home turf finally get to watch our film and that too, at one of our oldest single screen theatres - Liberty Cinema, very excited about it! To be finally be able to watch it with members of our cast, crew and all the audiences in person, in a cinema is something that we as a team are really looking forward to. Here's hoping our journey of love and acceptance with Sheer Qorma wins many hearts at Kashish 2022."
Director Faraz Arif Ansari adds, "From being one of the members of the audience at Kashish, to being the director of the Centrepiece Film with Sheer Qorma - this is going to be so truly special for me! I'm very grateful to Sridhar Rangayan and the entire team of Kashish International Queer Film Festival for giving our film such a prestigious place at this year's festival. I am super happy that audiences in Mumbai and around will finally get to watch the film. I've been getting a lot of messages on social media about how folks from various parts of India are coming to watch the film at Kashish - so very exciting! There is no greater joy than watching it on the big screen with a packed house. I will be there in person, along with the cast and crew of Sheer Qorma, to watch the film with the audiences, media and other dignitaries and interact with them after the screening. For a film that was born, conceived and filmed in Mumbai and to finally screen it at Liberty cinema where I grew up watching films, I am so looking forward to it!"
