A new era of gangster drama with a twist of romance and comedy is upon us, courtesy of the creative director duo, Raj and DK, as they gear up for their latest venture, âGuns and Gulaabs'. The trailer for this Netflix series is a throwback to the 90s, instantly capturing the essence of the era. As soon as the trailer hit the screens, many internet users drew comparisons with Anurag Kashyap's iconic 'Gangs of Wasseypur' (GOW), pointing out the similarities between the two projects.
The vibrant cast of the upcoming series, including Dulquer Salmaan, Rajkummar Rao, Gulshan Devaiah, and TJ Bhanu, recently sat down for a candid chat with DNA India. Amidst the lively conversation, Rajkummar Rao, who has been part of Anurag Kashyap's cult action film, addressed the claims surrounding the resemblance of 'Guns and Gulaabs' to GOW. In a show of appreciation, Rajkummar praised Raj and DK for masterfully directing the project, stating, "They handled it (the subject) very well. They know how to create a mass entertainer exceptionally well. Having written 'Stree' and belonging to small-town roots, they're deeply familiar with this world."
Elaborating on the comparisons between the two shows, Rajkummar further explained, Gangs of Wasseypur delves into the intense rivalry between two gangs, weaving action, violence, romance, and comedy. It's become a cult classic. However, âGuns and Gulaabs' ventures into a distinct territory. Rajkummar noted, "The only common ground is the backdrop of a small town, packed with action and humor. But beyond that, the treatment is entirely different. The setting, ambiance, and music create a unique atmosphere. 'Gangs of Wasseypur' stands tall, and this show will carve its own place of distinction."
At its core, âGuns and Gulaabs' is a comedy-crime thriller, a creation brought to life by the visionaries Raj and DK. Immerse yourself in the gritty world of the 90s, overflowing with crime and adrenaline. Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan, Adarsh Gourav, and TJ Bhanu lead the pack, promising a performance to remember. The curtains are set to rise on this exhilarating series as it premieres on Netflix, starting August 18th. Get ready to embark on a rollercoaster ride of entertainment!
