As per reports in Times Now, a source revealed, "Aashiqui 3 is now titled Tu Aashiqui Hai. It is based on the 1981 film, Basera, starring Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee, and Rekha. The film will go on floors later this year. Tripti and Kartik will play the lead roles, and the producers are yet to lock one more actress for the movie."

Earlier, while speaking about the film in media interactions, Kartik had said, "The timeless classic 'Aashiqui' is something I grew up watching and working on 'Aashiqui 3' is like a dream come true. I feel privileged yet grateful to collaborate with Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt for this opportunity. I've been a big fan of Anurag Basu's work, and collaborating with him on this one will definitely shape me in many ways."
For the uninitiated, Kartik was last seen in âSatyaprem Ki Katha' alongside Kiara Advani. The actor has just recently completed the filming of Chandu Champion. Helmed by Kabir Khan, 'Chandu Champion' is based on the life of India's first Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar, who won the 50 metres freestyle swimming competition at the 1972 Summer Paralympics in Heidelberg, Germany. During the 1965 India-Pakistan war, Petkar, a soldier of the craftsman rank in the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) in the Indian Army, suffered debilitating injuries that rendered him paraplegic. He took to swimming as recommended by the doctor, and eventually represented India internationally.
