'Dil Dhadakne Do' actor Ranveer Singh in an interview talks about working in ensemble films, courting controversies, his marriage plans and his upcoming projects
Ranveer Singh
Q. You are one of the few emerging stars who have been part of multi-starrers. What's the thought?
A. I want to be part of stories that have great characters and directors. I am not greedy or insecure. I don't believe one needs to hog the screenspace the whole time. If you are integral to the story and secure in your abilities, there is nothing to feel threatened. I was the first to be signed for 'Dil Dhadakne Do' and was excited about doing an ensemble film because where else will I get to work with actors of such calibre? Among young actors, I have the maximum number of cameos and I am cool that way.

Q. How is Bajirao Mastani shaping up?
A. 'Ram Leela' was just a warm-up for 'Bajirao Mastani'. We (Sanjay Leela Bhansali and he) were just feeling each other out for what we were actually supposed to do - that is 'Bajirao Mastani'. It's an inferno, a raging fire.
Q. Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt are doing 'Shuddi', a film that you and Deepika Padukone were once in the running for. Any regrets?
A. I have known Varun since long. We used to go to the same recreational club and gym. He is like a little brother. I am very happy he has a great film in hand.

Q. You faced a lot of heat for the AIB Roast and have now been dragged into a new controversy over a vest ad. Does it bother you?
A. I can't talk about AIB as the matter is sub-judice. In case of the ad, I wanted a disclaimer, but no one listened to me. I don't do things with any ill-will or malice. My sole aim is to entertain.
Q. Many actors are slated to marry soon. Do you and Deepika have any such plans?
A. You have assumed things and jumped the gun. I am going to be 30 in July and it is not that I don't think about marriage. But I am not ready for it yet. I am too caught up in my career and don't think I can do justice to a married life right now.
Q. Will you ever settle for an arranged match?
A. It will always be love for me. I'd rather not marry than go for an arranged marriage.
