The textile ministry is likely to rope in 'Desi Girl' Priyanka Chopra as the brand ambassador of Banarasi sarees.

The ministry is likely to rope in Priyanka Chopra to be the brand ambassador of Varanasi's famous 'Banarasi sarees' for its better promotion "across the world", Johra Chatterjee, secretary of Union Textile Ministry, told reporters here.

Chatterjee also held meetings with district officials during her two day visit to the city, which concluded yesterday. She discussed various welfare schemes meant for weavers, giving emphasis on better coordination among the machineries of state and centre for quick implementation of such schemes.

The ministry is also exploring the possibilty of opening up a National Institue of Fashion Technology (NIFT) centre in the city.
