Makers file complaint at cyber cell against Padmaavat leak

Even as Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer Padmaavat is moving toward the Rs 150-crore mark at the box office, the film has been affected by the online leak and rampant sharing of the file. Days after it procured a John Doe order from the Madras High Court to prevent any person or entity from infringing the film rights, Viacom 18 (co-producer) lodged complaints with the cybercrime cells of Maharashtra, Delhi and Chandigarh yesterday.

The production house's spokesperson told mid-day, "The cyber crime cells across the respective states have been extremely co-operative and have begun a thorough investigation into the matter. We hope that the authorities take strict and immediate action."

The cyber cell has blocked a few IP addresses. An insider from the cyber cell reveals, "The officials have been tracking the usual pirates. At some point, they will attempt to make pirated DVDs. The cyber cell has alerted their stringers about it, so they will be nabbed if they try it."

It may be recalled that post the release of Baahubali 2 (2017), a major pirate gang was busted by the cops. However, in case of Padmaavat, there are multiple gangs at work. "Padmaavat was uploaded on 35 websites on Torrent and the cyber cell has pulled it down from each of them. Since most of these websites use payment methods, it will be easy to track the source."
