The Evolution of Television in India
CMD Upendrra Rai began his address by reflecting on the history of television in India. He noted that television services were first introduced in 1959 but remained limited to only seven cities even after 16 years. The launch of color television in 1982 marked a significant shift, revolutionizing the viewing experience.
The Seven Epochs of Human Evolution
Taking a broader philosophical approach, CMD Upendrra Rai described human evolution through seven distinct epochs. He explained that early humans lived in fear of nature and animals, struggling for survival. Over time, as civilization progressed, communities were formed, agriculture was discovered, and empires emerged. He emphasized the industrial revolution as a major turning point and described today's AI-driven world as the eighth and most transformative epoch, filled with limitless possibilities.
AI as a Job Creator, Not a Threat
Addressing concerns about AI replacing jobs, CMD Upendrra Rai reassured the audience that AI would generate more employment opportunities rather than reduce them. He stated, "If 80% of jobs are lost, then 95% new jobs will be created," challenging the widespread fear that AI will lead to mass unemployment.
The Future of Technology & Innovation
CMD Upendrra Rai further discussed the ongoing technological advancements shaping the world. He pointed out that many of the top executives in leading American companies are of Indian origin, reflecting India's increasing global influence. Looking ahead, he predicted that in the coming decades, smartphones would undergo remarkable transformations, incorporating built-in chips and virtual interaction capabilities, eventually eliminating the need for charging or SIM cards. He also envisioned a future where flying cars powered by drones and hydro-technology become a reality by 2050.
Highlighting resilience in innovation, CMD Upendrra Rai cited Elon Musk's journey, emphasizing how he overcame multiple setbacks to become a global leader in technology. He remarked, "I feel Elon Musk doesn't even know the 'S' of Space Engineering. He failed three times, but without taking a U-turn, he kept trying and ultimately succeeded on his fourth attempt in placing a satellite in space. Then, NASA awarded him his first contract worth $3 billion." He further added" Elon Musk's innovation played a key role in bringing Sunita Williams back from Space astonishing the world. Now Elon Musk is the leader and trillionaire Businessman."
Additionally, CMD Upendrra Rai spoke about the growing preference for compact and convenient media consumption. He envisioned a future where television content could be accessed on palm-sized devices, redefining how people engage with digital media.
CMD Upendrra Rai's address at SATCAB Symposium 2025 provided an optimistic outlook on how AI and technological advancements will shape employment and revolutionize the media industry.
