Parle Tilak Vidyalaya English left-arm-spinner Atharva Ankolekar's five for 79 helped the Vile Parle team restrict Al-Barkaat MMI (Kurla) to 216 on Day One of their Harris Shield Elite Division match at Azad Maidan yesterday. Parle Tilak ended proceedings on 28-1 in 13 overs.
Atharva scalped Shubham Singh (11), Rayhan Khan (13), Monis Mohammed (4), Thapa Kesar Singh (0) and Jahangir Ansari (20). Prashant Solanki and Hardik Rambhiya claimed two wickets each and Anuj Purandare took one wicket.

Commenting on the wicket, Atharva said: “It was a good pitch to bowl on. The four maiden overs that we bowled on the trot in the afternoon built pressure on them. The Al-Barkaat batsmen succumbed to pressure and played some bad shots which helped me pick up wickets.”
Life, meanwhile, hasn’t been easy for the 13-year-old Atharva after he lost his father, Vinod, in 2010. His mother, Vaidehi, takes tuitions to ensure that he is able to live his cricketing dreams.
“I miss my dad the most as it was his dream to see me play. After his death, my mother has sacrificed a lot. She didn’t let prevailing financial conditions affect my sporting career. I hope I am able to fulfill my dad’s wish of playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy some day,” said the Class VIII student.
