Two-time Indian winner of the Mumbai Marathon, hawaldar Ram Singh Yadav, finished a disappointing third among clocking 2:25:33 yesterday, way outside his previous 2:18-plus run.
However, Lt Col Prateek Mohil Officer in-charge at the Army Sports Institute in Pune, where Yadav trains, wasn't surprised. "Ram Singh has been running marathons continuously across the last few months. First, he ran in Malaysia (June), then the Singapore half marathon (July) and then full marathons at the SAFF Games (Sept), CWG (Oct), Asiad (Nov) and now this. In fact, he also wanted to run the recent Pune Marathon, but I stopped him. His body is tired and he also has a hamstring injury. He needs rest," Mohil said.
