Vaishnavi Chattiar scores seven as Canossa thrash Podar 8-1

Energetic striker Vaishnavi Chattiar, nine, displayed excellent dribbling and shooting skills, scoring seven goals as Canossa School (Andheri) routed Podar International School ICSE (Powai) 8-1 in a girls’ U-12 Div-II league match of the MSSA inter-school football tournament at Azad Maidan on Thursday.


Vaishnavi, the team captain, exhibited some good ball control as she ran through the rival defence to score goals at regular intervals. She scored all the six goals in the first session, with the first in the very second minute. In the second period, Podar International defended better. They also managed to score one through Shriya Kamath. Canossa’s Angel Muntode scored the seventh before Vaishnavi netted the eighth to complete the rout.

In another match, Nahar International School (Powai) rode on the twin strikes from captain Bhavavya Sharma to overcome Jankidevi Public School (Andheri) 2-0.

Meanwhile, Don Bosco (Matunga) strolled to a 4-0 win over St Mary’s SSC (Mazgaon) in a boys U-14 Div-I match at the St Francis D’Assisi ground, Borivli. triker Adair D’Souza, scored a brace while Keegan Peres and Rudra Yerunkar chipped in with one each. Later, Christ Church School ICSE (Byculla) beat St Francis D’Assisi 1-0 with Yohan Kapadia scoring the decisive goal. 

In the last match of the day, Aditya Birla World Academy (Tardeo) beat Nahar International School (Powai) 1-0 in a boys’ U-16 Div-IV play-off. Aryaman Bafna scored for the Tardeo school.
