Aditya Birla School (Tardeo) staved off a spirited challenge from Rajhans Vidyalaya (Andheri) to clinch a 2-0 win in a MSSA boys U-16 Div-III pre-quarter-final at the St Francis D’Assisi High School ground, Borivli, on Thursday.

The Tardeo boys started in rousing fashion and took the lead in the second minute. Left winger Aarav Gandhi made a good run down the flank and cut into the box before chipping over the Rajhans Vidyalaya defence and goalkeeper Tirth Sheth for teammate Agastya Kothari, who was unmarked at the far post. Agastya coolly directed the ball into the net.

Rajhans Vidyalaya fought on gamely and managed to make inroads towards the rival goal, but failed to score. The Andheri side were unfortunate to concede the second goal as defender Arshbir Singh, in an attempt to clear Aryaman Agarwal’s corner, miskicked the ball into his own goal.

Earlier, Meet Chinmay’s lone strike helped Children Welfare (Andheri) overcome Ryan International ICSE (Malad) 1-0 margin in a Div-IV match. Meet scored off a swerving 20-yard free-kick.

Meanwhile, St Andrew’s HS (Bandra), powered by Gaurav Prasad’s four goals, beat Billabong International (Andheri) 6-0. Owais Shaikh scored the other two goals for the Bandra boys.
