Gokuldham HS (Goregaon) produced a strong combined performance to dash the hopes of hosts St Francis D’Assisi by cruising to a 3-0 victory in the quarter-final of the boys’ U-16 Ahmed Sailor knockout MSSA inter-school football tournament at the St Francis D’Assisi HS ground, Borivli on Thursday.

St Francis D’Assisi were unable to take advantage of playing on their home ground against the Goregaon lads, who were dominant from the outset, and expectedly emerged worthy winners. Striker Prameet Irde opened the scoring by striking the first goal in the 16th minute before prolific goal-scorer Premshankar Singh added the second in the 27th minute.

Gokuldham put the issue beyond their opponents when Rishi Kartha hammered in the third goal in the 33rd minute to carry his team into the semi-finals. Earlier, firm favourites, Don Bosco (Matunga) booked their place in the semi-finals by recording an authoritative 3-1 win against Utpal Sanghvi (Juhu) in another Last-8 encounter. The superior Don Bosco boys took the lead when Angelo Fernandes converted a penalty in the 13th minute.

In the second half, Angelo was once again bang on target, scoring the third goal to complete Don Bosco’s win. Utpal Sanghvi scored a late consolation goal through Laksh Shah in the 35th minute.
