Cathedral and John Connon (Fort) played with plenty of determination and scored a hard-fought 1-0 win over a spirited Podar ORT International School (Worli) in a the final of the MSSA Cup boys U-8 inter-school knockout football tournament at Azad Maidan recently. 


In an engrossing and exciting contest, both teams were evenly matched and there was plenty of action at either end. However, the Fort boys created better goal-scoring opportunities and after a barren first half, striker Riaan Dhurandhar scored the all-important goal in the second minute of the second half. 


Cathedral could have scored more goals, but their attackers wasted quite a few chances, including a penalty which striker Kaveer Goradia failed to convert.

Later, Podar put up a solid fight in an attempt to find the equaliser, but were unable to find the back of the Cathedral net which was in the safe custody of skipper and goalkeeper Atharv Lakhanpal, who maintained a clean sheet throughout the tournament.

Earlier, in the third-place match, Dhirubhai Ambani International School (Bandra) beat Smt RSB Arya Vidya Mandir (Juhu) 1-0. Striker Yuvaan Parekh netted the match-winner for Dhirubhai Ambani in the ninth minute.
