Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer Chris Jordan, who scored 30 in just 18 balls during his team’s five-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), conceded that there weren’t enough runs on the board to defend.

“We did well to put a bit of pressure on KKR and try to take the game close but the bottom line is we didn’t have enough runs and that’s what cost us the game in the end,” Jordan said at the post-match virtual press conference on Monday night.

Put in to bat, PBKS managed to post a paltry 123-9 with opener Mayank Agarwal and No. 8 Jordan scoring 31 and 30 runs respectively. KKR pacer Prasidh Krishna (3-30) bowled well, while off-spinner Sunil Narine and pacer Pat Cummins supported him taking two wickets apiece. In reply, skipper Eoin Morgan’s unbeaten 47 and Rahul Tripathi’s 41 helped KKR get their second win in the tournament with 20 balls to spare.

Jordan, who gave away 24 runs in his three overs, said that the Punjab bowlers did specific practice with wet balls to counter the dew at the Narendra Modi Stadium, but failed to execute their plans during the match. “The wicket was challenging but nothing that we were not expecting. We have been doing a lot of work in training, bowling with wet balls and stuff and trying to figure out what is the best plan to use. So, we were well prepared from that point of view. The way forward is for us to keep doing a lot of the good things that we’ve been doing. We are very close to putting together the perfect game,” Jordan concluded.
