Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw, who scored a 17-ball 32 in his team’s six-wicket win over Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, is a much-relieved batsman now than he was a few months ago. In December last year, Shaw was dropped following his zero and four in the first Test against Australia in Adelaide.

“After the Australia series and after getting dropped after the first game, I started worrying about my technique and wondered why I was getting bowled all the time.
‘Had to minimise mistakes’
Everyone could see that happening. I wanted to be sure of what was happening too. Even if it was a minor mistake, I wanted to minimise that, so I worked hard with my initial movements. I tried to get more stable and more steady before the bowler has bowled,” Shaw said at the post-match virtual press conference on Sunday night.

Coaches to the rescue
Shaw said he had doubts about his technique and worked with his coaches to rectify things. “After I returned from Australia, I worked with Prashant Shetty sir, who is my coach and Pravin Amre sir [DC’s assistant coach] before going to the Vijay Hazare Trophy. That worked well for me,” added Shaw.
Earlier, DC chased down Punjab’s massive total of 195-4, with six wickets and 10 balls to spare, thanks mainly to opener Shikhar Dhawan’s 49-ball 92 (13x4, 2x6). After Dhawan’s departure in the 16th over, Marcus Stoinis stepped in to score an unbeaten 27 off 13 (3x4, 1x6) as DC emerged comfortable victors.
