Chittagong: England captain Stuart Broad admitted there were "no excuses" from his side for their humiliating defeat to Holland in their final World Twenty20 match and said the players had let down supporters.

England were beaten by 45 runs after being bowled out for just 88 runs by minnows Holland. It was a repeat of the 2009 embarrassment at Lord's but this was arguably an even more abject display against a side blown away for 39 by Sri Lanka but gradually building to this unlikely act of giant-killing ever since.

Only three players, Ravi Bopara (18), Chris Jordan (14) and Alex Hales (12) managed to get into double figures.

Broad said at the post-match presentation: "It's hugely disappointing but there's no excuses from our side. We should have won today, it was relatively simple chase, but a shocking chase.

"The players have certainly let the small amount of fans who have travelled here down, but also English cricket fans at home."

Mudassar Bukhari and Logan van Beek took 3-12 and 3-12 respectively. In their entire innings, England only scored four boundaries.

Brief scores: Holland 133-5 (W Barresi 48; S Broad 3-24) beat England 88 (R Bopara 18; Lagon van Beek 3-9, M Bukhari 3-12) by 45 runs
