After spending nearly three hours with the Mumbai Ranji Trophy and U-23 teams recently, legendary Sachin Tendulkar dropped in at the Bandra Kurla Complex ground yesterday to mentor the bowlers on the eve of the team's departure for their Ranji Trophy opener against Andhra.

The batting great spent a couple of hours with the bowlers and gave them insights on how to go about taking 20 wickets to end up on the winning side. "The most fascinating part of Sachin's talk was that cricket is played on the opposite end.

"He said the bowlers have to make the batsmen uncomfortable… never give them the line and length they like. If the batsman likes to play on the front foot, the bowlers must make him play on the
back foot.

Length is key
"He spoke about importance of being aware of the length which vary from session to session and days," Mumbai coach Chandrakant Pandit told mid-day.

Tendulkar urged the bowlers to remain patient. "One shouldn't experiment too much when nothing much is happening. Sometimes, bowling in the same areas consistently also can get you wickets," Tendulkar told the boys by narrating a few examples.

Tendulkar emphasised on reading the batsmen well. "One cannot think about wrist position, run-up etc during the match. It is important to read the batsmen and guess his next move," a player revealed.
