MCA may relax cooling period rule

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is all set to relax the one-year cooling period rule in its Managing Committee meeting today, it is learnt. Two years ago, the MCA imposed a one-year ban on players who move to different states before being considered for selection again. Mumbai stalwart and former skipper Amol Muzumdar would be the biggest beneficiary of this decision.

Amol Muzumdar

Muzumdar, who moved to Assam before the 2009-10 season, has already expressed his desire to play for Mumbai again. Vinit Indulkar, Bhavin Thakkar (both Himachal Pradesh), Vinayak Mane (J&K), Santosh Saxena (Railways) and Wilkin Mota (Tripura) could also benefit from this rule change. It will also be a boon to Mumbai Police players who are often transferred from one state to another.

"The cricketers will move out of Mumbai if they get an opportunity elsewhere. It is a wise thing to do rather than wait for an opportunity. So, if they desire to play for Mumbai again, we should accept them. After all, they are not ordinary cricketers. They are proven performers. We are hopeful on reaching a consensus on the one-year cooling period today," a source said.
