"My backstory always gives me confidence to tackle any situation": Yashasvi

Brought up in penury, Yashasvi Jaiswal says that he now uses those experiences from those days as his weapon to perform in international matches. Yashasvi Jaiswal has showcased his class yet again by smashing a century in the first Test match against Australia and is on the verge of becoming Team India's batting mainstay after Virat Kohli, who also registered a century. Having moved to Mumbai from Uttar Pradesh to play cricket at an early age, Yashasvi Jaiswal lived in tents with the groundsmen. He even used to sell paani puris at night to earn money for food. "It's something (his backstory) that always gives me confidence that I can come out of any situation. I always fight, I always look to fight, I want to be in the battle, I want to enjoy the battle and I want to win the battle," Yashasvi Jaiswal said during a chat with Australian television broadcaster Mark Howard. The 22-year-old opener added, "So this is what it gives me and I am really blessed that I have this life, that can give me a lot of confidence, learnings about myself, how I can believe in me, and how I can go through with different emotions, different situation in my life. Also Read: "You are and will always remain my younger brother", Parth Jindal pens down emotional adieu to Rishabh Pant "So I think it's just incredible and I really want to thank god for where I am and what I am doing, and I am doing what I love, so I am just happy at the moment. I want to enjoy this with every ball." His journey of coming to the limelight is an interesting story of a strong-willed man creating his own destiny. After departing on a duck in the first innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal bounced back by smashing a glorious century in the Perth Test. Asked about his unusual celebration after getting to the three-figure mark, Jaiswal said, "Yes, it was (an unusual) way to bring up the hundred. In my mind, I was like, I will do this or that, and then suddenly, something happened, and I was like, oh my god, what should I do. So, I was like, okay, I will just celebrate, and I will enjoy this moment. I was blessed, I was grateful, I enjoyed it, this feeling will stay with me for a long time." "I give kisses to all my loved ones, all my fans who have supported me. I just wanted to give them my love with the kisses." He spoke to his family after the fine achievement. "I just called my family on whatsapp, getting everyone along and celebrate with them. My brother always talks to me about cricket." Team India won the first Test match by a margin of 297 runs against Australia. The teams will now lock horns in Adelaide for the second Test match beginning on December 6. (With PTI Inputs)

Prithvi Shaw: From next Sachin to going unsold in IPL 2025 Mega Auction?

The game of cricket has seen many great players ruining their careers due to external affairs or factors affecting themselves. One among these players who have the potential of carrying the legacy of Indian cricket in the right direction is Prithvi Shaw. Prithvi Shaw, a 2018 U-19 World Cup-winning captain has gone unsold in the concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Mega Auction. Prithvi Shaw, once renowned as the "Next Big Thing in India Cricket" and the "Next Sachin Tendulkar" has now found himself in a difficult situation. Many game's great were mesmerized by the quality of cricket, which Prithvi used to showcase in the early days of his career. Former Team India cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri once hailed Prithvi Shaw by saying, "When I see him first, it reminded me a little bit of Sachin (Tendulkar), a little bit of Viru (Virender Sehwag) and when he walks, there's a little bit of Lara (Brian) there." It's surprising to see him struggle to find a place in the national team when his teammates such as Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are on the verge of becoming the regular faces for Team India. WATCH VIDEO of him claiming himself turning 14 years in September Where his fellow batting partner Shubman Gill has already begun leading an IPL team, Shaw fell short of catching the franchise owner's eyes on him. Prithvi Shaw, a boy who was once compared to Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar by the International Cricket Council (ICC) is now struggling to score many runs in a cash-rich league. Previously, the right-hander was accused of hitting a woman in the middle of the road. Since then, Shaw has faced much criticism for his focus shifting away from cricket to materialistic things. The batsman who has the potential to rule the streets of international cricket with his absolutely stunning techniques has not represented India in more than 10 matches in all three formats of the game. Prithvi Shaw has played five Test matches in which he garnered 339 runs including one century and two half-centuries. Having played six One-Day Internationals, Shaw managed to score 189 runs, followed by one T20 Internationals with no runs. He has a rich record in first-class matches. So far, featuring in 51 first-class matches, Shaw accumulated 4,278 runs including 13 centuries and 17 half-centuries. The last time Prithvi Shaw made an international appearance was during a T20I match against Sri Lanka in 2021. Debuting for Team India at the age of 18 years, Prithvi Shaw became the second-youngest Indian batsman after Tendulkar to score a Test century and the youngest Indian to register a Test century on debut. In his IPL career so far, Prithvi Shaw has been a part of only one franchise, Delhi Capitals since 2018.

Greg Chappell wants all talk of Bumrah’s action to end

Former India coach Greg Chappell has called for all chat surrounding Jasprit Bumrah’s action to end immediately following India’s splendid win in Perth, where the opening Test ended India’s way on Monday. “By the way, please stop this nonsense of questioning Bumrah’s action. It is unique, but it is unequivocally clean. It demeans a champion performer and the game to even bring it up,” Chappell wrote in his Sydney Morning Herald column on Tuesday. Also Read: It's a perthfect start for India! Like several other former greats, he was disappointed by Australia’s show and hailed India’s brilliance. “India’s bowlers, spearheaded by the lethal Jasprit Bumrah, looked sharper and more menacing. Australia were bundled out for 104 in 52 overs, with Bumrah proving almost unplayable at times,” he wrote while calling centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal an “emerging superstar." Chappell, the former Australia captain, who coached India from 2005 to 2007, added: “The young opener is fearless and appears poised to inherit the mantle of Indian batting excellence, following the likes of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.”

Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar leads Indian pacers’ ‘Pay Day’, Shardul goes unsold

Out of national reckoning for more than two years, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s experience was in demand among the IPL franchises with Royal Challengers Bengaluru buying him for Rs 10.75 crore as lesser-fancied Indian fast bowlers hit pay dirt on the second day of the mega auction here on Monday. Bhuvneshwar, who will be 35 before the start of next IPL, has 300 wickets from 287 career T20 games and an economy rate of less than eight. But he last played for India during a tour of New Zealand in November 2022 and is considered well past his prime at the international level. However, with at least three Indian pacers needed per team, the pool is not large enough to ensure equal distribution among the 10 teams. Also Read: Sindhu, Lakshya eye glory at Syed Modi Int’l Therefore, Bhuvneshwar, an injury-prone Deepak Chahar (Rs 9.25 crore for Mumbai Indians) and a Test reserve Mukesh Kumar (R8  crore RTM by Delhi Capitals) got good deals on the second day when franchises came with leaner purse after splurging away on Sunday.  Akash Deep, the Test pacer, got a Rs 8 crore deal from Lucknow Super Giants. Ajinkya Rahane, who had gone unsold earlier in the day, returned to the auction and to the Kolkata Knight Riders’ camp for Rs 1.50 crore. Mumbai duo of pacer Shardul Thakur and opening batsman Prithvi Shaw along with New Zealand stars Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips were among the unsold players. "I think Uzzie should have owned moment": Clarke on Nathan facing first ball

Former Australia Test captain Michael Clarke was critical of Usman Khawaja’s decision to allow debutant opener Nathan McSweeney to face the first ball in Australia’s second innings against India, saying the veteran batter had to “own the moment” in Perth. Also Read: Zabardast! After India set them a mammoth target of 534 after declaring their second innings at 487-6, Australia had to deal with a tricky period on Day Three, which started on a false note as McSweeney lasted just four balls before being trapped leg-before wicket by Jasprit Bumrah. “A lot of people don’t like taking first ball, so the opening batters rotate. Khawaja took the first ball in the first innings and now they’re saying it’s McSweeney [for the second innings].” “But I think Uzzie should have said, ‘youngster, get down the other end, even though we’re going to rotate, even though I don’t like taking it, it’s my time’. [He should have said] ‘I’m a senior player. I’m 38 years of age in a week’s time. Listen here, youngster, I know you want to do it, [but] get down there. It’s my turn’. I think Uzzie should have owned that moment,” said Clarke to Sky Sports’ Big Sports Breakfast show. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies.
