Former India captain Anil Kumble, who led Indian Premier League (IPL) team Royal Challengers Bangalore with distinction for two seasons, has decided to withdraw from the IPL auction to be held in his hometown Bangalore this weekend.
It is learnt that Kumble has written a note to Sundar Raman, Chief Executive Officer of the IPL informing him about his decision to stay away from the Twenty20 league.

"I wish to withdraw from the players auction for IPL IV scheduled for the 8th and 9th of Jan 2011 in Bangalore.
I have enjoyed my stint at the IPL so far and thank all concerned for the support extended," Kumble is believed to have written. Royal Challengers Bangalore were runners-up in the second edition of the IPL which was held in South Africa because the Indian government could not guarantee security to the teams.u00a0
It is learnt that the note was marked to BCCI presidentu00a0 Shashank Manohar, secretary N Srinivasan, chief administrative officer Prof Ratnakar Shetty and Javagal Srinath, the new Honorary Secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
Sundar Raman's reply was: "It is a big loss to IPL. You have lit up the tournament with your presence and performance and I am sure has been an inspiration for many."
Recently, Kumble was elected as president of the KSCA.
Kumble did not spell out the reasons for his withdrawal, but age (40) may have been a reason considering the latest form of the game is a young man's sport. Farewell Jumbo, his fans would say.
