Having helped Arsenal emerge from a 13-point deficit to win epl title in 1998, anelka says fifth-placed chelsea too can repeat history

But the Blues striker admits the champions will have to win all 17 of their remaining games if they are to overhaul United at the end of the season.

Chelsea are currently in fifth place, nine points adrift of the unbeaten leaders, who have a game in hand.
Arsenal languished 13 points behind United as late as March back in 1998 -- albeit having played fewer matches -- but won 10 games in a row to snatch the title.

Anelka believes that with both fixtures against United still to play, Chelsea are not out of this season's race.
"It is going to be tough but anything is possible, even if it is very hard," he told his club's official website, www.chelseafc.com.

"We have to win every game from now, and maybe we can do it, but to win every game is hard. Most important is to win against the teams that are around and in front of us.

"At Arsenal in 1998, we had belief because, like I said, in football anything is possible, and if you are winning game after game and others are dropping points, it can happen."

Anelka also agrees with teammate Frank Lampard that the squad have lacked confidence during what has been their worst run in the league for 15 years.

"I don't think we lack confidence as individuals, but maybe as a team we didn't look like we knew what we had to do on the pitch," said the 31-year-old."That's why I think Frank said that. "But, as individuals, we know our quality and what we each need to do.

"But we don't play alone on the pitch, we have to play as a team and all 11 players need to work together, which was the problem during a difficult time."
