A man confessed to police in Mississippi to killing his five children and leaving their bodies in Alabama, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
The children, aged between one and eight, were last seen Sep 3 with their father, Timothy Jones, near their home in South Carolina.
Their mother, who shared custody of the children along with their father, reported them missing to the authorities.
Jones was detained Saturday in Raleigh, Mississippi, when police detected a strange smell coming from his vehicle and found chemicals used to make methamphetamine, along with synthetic marijuana, bleach, muriatic acid, blood and other body fluids.
It was not immediately clear how or where the children died.
