The Nagpur police have registered a case against the 31-year-old man for duping a cousin doctor of Rs 2.5 crore on the pretext of protecting her valuables from I-T scrutiny.

In her complaint, Anita Ashok Moryani (35) stated that her cousin brother Tanmay Naresh Dudhani, a resident of Bhopal, came to Nagpur to offer support to her family in 2019 when her mother took ill and passed away after a few months.

The accused gained her trust and took charge of her financial matters. Later, the accused allegedly scared the victim with scrutiny by the Income Tax (I-T) department and transferred her money into a bank account opened in his name.

"He also allegedly took possession of Moryani's family ornaments," stated the complaint.

"The accused took a loan of Rs 6 lakh using the Moryani's credit card without her consent," the official said quoting the complaint.

The accused later allegedly refused to return victim's money and jewellery.

"Moryani recently filed a complaint at Jaripatka police, who registered a case against Dudhani for cheating and forgery," the official said.

Meanwhile, in another incident in Nagpur, a history-sheeter was arrested for allegedly trying to break into the house of a judge couple, a police official said on Thursday.

"The break-in attempt, involving damage to the safety door, took place on August 11 a judge in the railway court, and her husband - a magistrate in Kamptee, were out of town," the Ambazari police station official said.

"A case was filed in August 16 when the couple returned home. A probe zeroed in on Aniket Raut (26), who has cases of vehicle theft and burglary against his name. He has said he had an accomplice in the act and efforts are on to nab him," the official added.
