Shivraj Patil fills up two senior positions in the Lokayukta police wing and ignores former Chief Minister's recommended candidates; many believe it is a strong message to politicos

Lokayukta Justice Shivraj Patil's decision to fill up two senior positions in the Lokayukta police wing is being viewed by skeptics as damage control tactics, while others believe he is sending out a strong message to politicians.

No pressure on the job: Sources claim that Lokayukta Justice Shivraj
Patil is simply trying to prove that political pressure just wont work.

Jeevan Kumar Goinkar was appointed as the ADGP, Eshwara Chandra Vidyasagar was appointed as the SP

Sources revealed that just before tendering his resignation, former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had forwarded the names of H N S Rao, ADGP and Dr G Ramesh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bangalore Central) for the same positions, but however his pressure tactics failed. Meanwhile, Jeevan Kumar Goinkar was appointed as the ADGP, Eshwara Chandra Vidyasagar was appointed as the SP.

Ironically, following instances of delayed investigations and crucial information being leaked by Lokayukta officials, Justice Santosh Hegde during his reign had strongly recommended for an independent police force for the Lokayukta body, to avoid delays in investigations due to transfer of personnel.

Patil however feigned ignorance on the matter and said, "I do not know about this recommendation and will surely look into it. For now, we have filled in two senior vacant positions," he said. Skeptics have dubbed his move as a damage control mechanism, but other factions believe otherwise. "He is simply trying to prove that political pressure to appoint favourites in senior positions wont work," revealed a source.

Meanwhile, SP positions for Raichur and Koppal are vacant, but will be filled up shortly, Patil assured.
"Three IPS officers from the Gulbarga Lokayukta police wing have been named in the Mining Report, which was recently filed and they are under the scanner. These positions will also become vacant soon," revealed Syed Riyaz, PRO, DCP.

Whether or not this move will send out a strong message to the politicos remains to be seen, but for now the new Lokayukta in power seems to be making all the right noises.
