Vijayawada: In a dramatic twist to a case relating to the death of a woman in an alleged acid attack, police investigations have revealed that she had planned the attack on her boyfriend but died when the acid accidentally fell on her.

The police have also arrested two youths with whom she hatched a conspiracy to attack her friend after he refused to marry her.

P. Emaleyamma alias Rani, 32, a nurse in a private hospital and K. Rajesh suffered burns while they were travelling on a motorcycle on the national highway at Keesarapalli village on the outskirts of Vijayawada on June 26 night.

The woman, who fell off the bike and sustained head injuries, died in hospital the next day.

Police initially suspected that unidentified people, who were following them on a motorbike, threw acid on them and sped away.

Police also picked up a few suspects in the case.

However, investigations revealed that it was Rani who had hatched a conspiracy to kill her friend. Sitting behind Rajesh on his bike, she threw acid on him but it also fell on her due to which she fell down from the bike, police said.

Rani, who got divorced recently, is survived by a three-year-old daughter.
