Cites example of victim Moreshwar Sathe, says newspaper pics show he was fine when cops took him in custody

Moreshwar Sathe was killed after his arrest in Tuesday's farmer agitation, said Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray yesterday. He demanded IPC Section 302 (murder) be slapped on the police. A 45-year-old tanker driver from Shivne village, Sathe was photographed by the local print media when the police arrested him.

Moot question: Thackeray has asked if Moreshwar Satheu00a0was in police
custody, how was he found in a pool of blood later

"If the newspaper picture shows Sathe alive with the police holding his hand to take him in custody, then how did he get killed?" said Thackeray. Earlier, Thackeray visited the injured agitators in hospitals in Maval and Talegaon. He called Tuesday's incident the brutal murder of agitators and farmers by the police.

"Moreshwar Sathe is an example of the brutality," he said. "Sathe was alive till his arrest and later his body was found in a pool of bloodu00a0-- it sounds absurd." Thackeray also demanded the resignation of R R Patil and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar for the poor law and order situation in the state. "The present government is doing nothing for the farmers and should be scrapped," he said.

Earlier, Eknath Khadse, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, and Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe also blamed the police for firing on the victims above the waist. Thackeray, Gorhe and Khadse demanded a judicial inquiry into the firing and killing of innocent people. BJP state president Sudhir Mungantiwar visited Sathe's family at Shivne in Maval Taluka. He said the police had broken cars and other vehicles. "A proper inquiry into Sathe's death should be conducted," he said.
