At the Coomaraswamy hall you can catch a glimpse of life in the colonial era, thanks to an exhibition of restored antique furniture and brass and wooden artefacts

Get set to be transported centuries back to the age of the Britishers, feudal lords and royalty. Mahenoshi Exports Private Limited isu00a0 hosting a special exhibition titled Tribute,u00a0 in the memory of Mahendra Doshi, the founder of the company who passed away in May 2010.



Doshi was an avid collector of colonial furniture for over 35 years and you will be able to catch a glimpse of several gems from his collection.u00a0

"It was his passion to restore old, dilapidated pieces of colonial furniture that led to the company being formed. I joined around two decades ago and I also believe that antique furniture is more charming and elegant than modern plywood furniture," states Anand Gandhi, MD, Mahenoshi Exports.

At the exhibition-cum-sale, over 150 pieces of furniture will be on display ranging from dining tables to writing tables, beds and chairs as well as 500 artefacts ranging from boxes and lamps to art deco pieces and copper pots. These belong to the 19th and 20th century.

One of the highlights at this exhibition will be a rare expandable dining table made from mahogany. It once belonged to a Bengal zamindar.

While the process of restoration is usually undertaken after the product has been sold to the client, for this exhibition they have chosen to restore the furniture prior to the event itself.
