The District Criminal Injuries Relief and Rehabilitation Board has sanctioned an amount of Rs 2 lakh for the four-year-old girl, who was sexually abused by an unidentified person near Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters in October
The reparation was authorised under the state government’s newly implemented Manodhairya scheme, which was introduced to provide compensation for sexual abuse and acid attack survivors.

This is the first instance in the district of a rape survivor receiving recompense through the scheme, since it came into force on October 2. The board, which is headed by district collector Vikas Deshmukh, was set up to deal with cases of sexual abuse and acid attacks, and to sanction compensation after detailed study of a case.
“The amount would be deposited to the fixed deposit account of the child. As the family of the kid is without shelter and is living on the footpath, the responsibility of the child has already been given to the women and child welfare committee,” said a highly-placed official in the district collectorate.
Apart from district collector, the committee consists of the deputy commissioner of police working in the Pune police commissionerate, superintendent of police, civil surgeon, and a representative of the women and child welfare department. u00a0

When contacted, district collector Deshmukh said that the board would meet whenever such a case comes before it. He said he has already informed all the police stations in the district to immediately notify the women and child welfare department whenever complaints of sexual abuse or acid attack are registered. A trauma team would also be formed for counselling the survivors. According to a Government Resolution, the survivor should get the compensation amount within 15 days of the FIR being lodged. u00a0
