All the 20 accused were absconding and search was in progress to nab them, official sources said today. The Crime Branch (CB) of state police, which had arrested 10 people and already filed chargesheet against them, has moved to a court in Baliguda seeking issuance of NBWs against 20 other people, they said.
The chargesheet was submitted on January 29 in the court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate at Baliguda which has been hearing the case.
The CB which probed the sensational case of alleged rape of a 29-year-old catholic nun took over investigation of the matter on October one. The incident took place on August 25.
The nun was allegedly raped and assaulted by a mob during Orissa bandh at K Nuagaon in Kandhamal in the aftermath of VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati's killing on August 23.
Though a case was registered at Baliguda police station on August 26, investigation actually started in October after media raised the issue. A day after the CB took up investigation, it arrested 10 people, including three from Kerala.
Meanwhile, the nun had identified two persons at a jail in Cuttack on January 5, sources said adding the CB had already conducted DNA tests on the accused and the nun.
