Transport department to interlink its zonal offices, makes prior appointment must for visiting them

The days of just walking into the zonal offices of Transport Department to get your licence made or any other official work done even through touts will be soon over.



The Department will make it mandatory people to seek prior appointment before visiting any of its zonal offices in Delhi for driving licences, driving tests, renewal of driving licences or any other work related to the vehicles.u00a0u00a0
Delhi Transport Commissioner R K Verma told MiD DAY that very soon inter-linking of all thirteen zonal offices through internet will be completed. "By doing so, anybodyu00a0 in the city will be able to go to any transport authority across the city and get his or her licence made as all the data will be on central server."

Transport department officials said that there were certain zonal offices where only 20-30 persons turned up in a day to apply for driving licence while others received 200-300 applications everyday. The new system will help in equitable distribution of workload as all the data will now be collated in the central server.

"Initially, the zonal offices will entertain those visitors between 8:30 am to 10:30 am who will have taken prior appointment through call center or website. Later, we are going to make it mandatory for everyone to visit the zonal offices for work only after having taken prior appointments through call center or our website," said Verma.

The officials said that it would put an end to the cases of bribery and reign of touts and also help the zonal officials reduce overcrowding. Also, people can take help of call centers in filling the forms and requisite documents.

Delhi will be the first city in the country to have all its zonal offices inter-linked and making visits to transport authorities only through prior appointments.u00a0 Transport officials claim those who take prior appointment will be issued driver's licence in 30 minutes flat.
