Notice to state govt states pvt unaided schools not reserving mandatory 25 per cent of seats for kids belonging to weaker sections
In a legal notice sent to the chief minister, education ministry and directorate of education, Forum for Fairness in Education (FFE), an NGO, has demanded that the state government immediately cancel all pre-primary admissions of students that have happened across private unaided schools.
The notice states under section 12, sub-section 1 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, all private unaided schools should have reserved 25 per cent of the strength of each class for children belonging to weaker sections and disadvantaged groups in the neighbourhood and admitted the children as per this provision. The NGO has claimed that as per their knowledge none of the unaided private schools followed the mandatory procedure and openly flouted the norms.
"This law applies to all schools including those that are private and unaided. This means that if they haven't complied with the norms, then the law is flouted and all admissions are illegal. The state government should immediately give the order to scrap all school admissions and start the admission process all over again," said Jayant Jain, president of FFE and All India Federation of PTA.
The NGO has alleged that instead of giving preference to local students, schools admit students who live in far away places, which is also against the Act.
In its demands, FFE has said that the government should frame a policy making all admissions transparent and also take action against schools that have flouted norms.
"If not agreed, we will take government to court and are even ready to go upto Supreme Court level this time," said Jain.
