Baby's day out in Nashik
Typically, you don't associate a spirit-soaked music festival with children but this diarist was surprised to spot quite a few under-10s at a recently-concluded festival in Nashik. Some even came in prams too! And for many families, it was their second consecutive time at the gig. None of the little ones seemed intimidated by the crowds or the noise. They had a gala time grooving to Kailasa and co.

Go with the Flo
Ahead of Women's day this March, here's another reason to celebrate womanhood. In its first edition, the FLO Film Festival will showcase power-packed films focusing on the issue of gender sensitivity. Organised by FICCI Ladies Organisation's FLO Mumbai Chapter, the festival will take place from February 18 to 20 at the Films Division Complex on Peddar Road. Along with 30 feature films, documentaries and short films that look at crucial female-centric and gender issues, it will also offer interactive sessions. You can catch films like I am a Girl, Driving with Selvi, Fatima, Tales and Siti along with features like Mustang, which were shortlisted for the Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards, scheduled for later this month.

Brendon's our man!
New Zealand might not be as cricket-crazy as India. Rugby wins the crown hands down but they are a sporting nation. During a visit to Kiwiland years ago, this diarist attended a T20 game between India and the hosts at Auckland's Eden Park. We loved that crowds cheered for every four or six hit by Indian players. But the loudest roars were reserved for captain Brendon McCullum, who has just retired from the game. The decibel levels were deafening each time the camera panned on him. “He'll bat for your life,” a diehard fan quipped amidst the din. The match ended in a nail-biting tie, where captain Brendon led the way. No surprise there.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced a retrospective of Indian modernist Nasreen Mohamedi (1937-1990) from March 18 till June 5, 2016. The exhibition will be organised by The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, in collaboration of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi. This comes as great news for fans of the artist, who will get a chance to view Mohamedi's early oil paintings, collages, drawings in ink and graphite, watercolours, as well as photographs.

The exhibition will open at The Met Breuer, the new location for the MET's expanding modern and contemporary art programme. It will introduce world audiences to over three decades of work that she documented in the form of a soliloquy, in tiny personal diaries and notebooks, some of which will be on display too. Speaking about the tie up, Kiran Nadar, Chairperson of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art said, “This is a momentous occasion for KNMA, having collaborated with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the United States and the Reina Sofia Museum in Spain, to bring Mohamedi's individualistic practice to the Western world.”
