City couple to walk to Tirupathi for 10th year in a row, this time for autistic children

Two entrepreneurs from the city are all set to walk to Tirupathi to create awareness about autism.

R T N Rao Sahib (45) and wife A N N Lalitha (38) plan to start their trek from the city on November 17. They want to cover 284.5 kilometres in eight days.

"Walking for a cause is itself a service to Lord Balaji," said Rao Sahib. "Autism is the issue we have chosen this year."

The couple, who run a food and nutrition business, have done the trek every year since 1999. This year, they also plan to meet parents of autistic children, organisations that work for the autistic, and make people understand that autistic people should not be discriminated against.

"This year we will meet people en route and educate them on aspects like special centres to treat autism, symptoms of autism and how to care for the affected."

Itinerary
The Raos plan to start their walk at 3 am every day, walk for 40 kilometres, and end their day at 6 pm. They expect to pass major cities, including Hoskote, Kolar and Chittoor, and hope to reach Tirupathi by November 25.
Last year, the Raos had walked the same distance creating awareness about multiple disabilities. They used the funds they collected to build a residential block for mentally and physically challenged children.
They hope with this walk, they will be able to help autistic children.
