A jawan of the 8th Manipur Rifles was shot dead by unidentified gunmen near Palel area in Chandel district, police officials said on Tuesday

Imphal: A jawan of the 8th Manipur Rifles was shot dead by unidentified gunmen near Palel area in Chandel district, police officials said on Tuesday.

Hopson Maring (36) was posted as a house guard of MLA D Korungthang's residence at Tengnoupal when the incident occurred last night.

The body was sent to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) hospital for post-mortem, they said.
